Liam broke every speed limit on his way to the Davenportâs place. Just as he was pulling into the drive, his phone rang.
Seeing Morganâs face on the screen, he answered it.
âAre you okay?â he asked.
âYes,â she said quickly. âIâm fine.â
âIâm just pulling in.â He parked behind a black pickup truck.
âRoy is here,â she said. Her voice sounded slightly off. âIâm okay. I feel so embarrassed.â
âWhat happenedâ he asked, getting out of the car and rushing to the front door.
âI showered.â She groaned. âI guessâ¦â
He stepped inside and saw her sitting on the sofa, wrapped in a white terry robe. When she saw him, she hung up her phone.
He rushed to her and wrapped his arms around her. She looked pale and, as he held her, she was shaking.
âI guess I passed out,â she said into his shoulder.
âYou took a shower alone?â He leaned back and looked at her. Instantly, he noticed her cast was gone. Her right leg was propped up on the sofa. It looked thinner than the other one and extremely pale. He worried that she may have injured it.
âHowâs your leg? Did you fall on it?â
âNo, I fell on my hip and shoulder. I must have banged my head.â She reached up and touched the back of her head. He ran his fingers over it gently and noticed a small bump. She winced slightly.
âThe gate was open,â Roy said. âWhen I banged on the front door, no one answered, so I let myself in to do a wellness check. I found Morgan crumpled on the floor inside that bathroom.â He motioned to the massage area.
Liam looked around. âWhere in godâs name are your parents?â he growled out. âYou could have been seriously injured.â
âIâ¦â Morgan started, but just then her mother walked out, laughing up at a very young man wearing only swimming trunks. When she noticed the three of them watching her and saw Morgan in a robe, she dropped her hand from the manâs arm. âOh, I didnât realize you were back,â she said to Liam, then she frowned at Roy. âDo I know you?â
âOfficer Roy Marcus. I was here earlier with my partner Becca,â Roy supplied.
Liam watched Victoriaâs face drop as she took a step away from the younger man.
âWhatâs happened?â she asked, sounding concerned.
âMorgan fell and knocked herself out. She was out so long that I was able to drive all the way here from work. I called Roy to rush over and do a wellness check when I couldnât reach you or Thomas.â His arm tightened slightly around Morgan. âYou should have been here,â he added, his eyes going to the young man, who quickly left.
Victoria walked closer. âAre you okay?â she asked Morgan.
âYes, Iâ¦â she started, but Liam jumped in.
âShe could have seriously injured her leg now that her cast is off,â he said, feeling his anger grow. âWhere is Thomas?â
âHeâs at the country club,â Victoria answered.
âLiam, really, Iâm fine,â Morgan said, touching his hand.
âI trusted them.
